In the months since launching our Linux preview, we’ve worked with early adopters across retail and restaurant solutions to shape what modern Linux device management should look like. Today, we're thrilled to open our Linux capabilities to a broader audience. Linux access will be rolled out to select users starting today, with the feature available to all users within the week.
Now, in addition to core capabilities previously announced — including scripting, Remote Terminal, and custom RBAC rules to secure access — you can get hands-on with Seamless Provisioning and Custom Actions.
From edge gateways to networking devices, many Linux devices that our customers manage are headless, which makes it tricky to roll them out and deploy to distributed locations at scale. With Seamless Provisioning for Linux, Esper makes it easy. In the Esper Console, you can download the .deb package with your desired blueprint baked in and burn it into your OS image. Then, simply add the devices’ serial numbers into the Esper Console, and you’re good to go. When the devices get dropshipped to your desired location, they just need to be booted up, and the provisioning process will take care of itself.
Customers also asked us to make it easy to apply repetitive or similar scripts over and over. You might have one person or team responsible for creating initial scripts, but then want to distribute the ability to apply that action to a broader team. With Custom Actions, you can create a custom button (or toggle or dropdown selection), and add it to a blueprint configuration or make it an option as a direct device action. This expands the capabilities and value of Linux device management to an even broader audience.
