What is the makeup of the hardware you have and plan to use?

Samsung’s Knox is a respectable solution for traditional employee smartphone and tablet management. And it’s not built for much else.

Samsung hardware paired with a Samsung device management solution may sound elegant and integrated, but in reality, you could be locking yourself in a golden cage. As the diversity of your device fleet grows, Knox will quickly become a roadblock to choice. One of the primary benefits of Android is its diverse ecosystem, both in hardware, the platform, and developer community. If you’re considering diversifying your fleet, go with a platform that is hardware and Android version agnostic. If you can see a future where your fleet isn’t 100% Samsung, Esper can open the doors Knox will close.

Do you want full control over how you configure, deploy, monitor, and update your devices, or just MDM?

Traditional mobile device management (MDM) tools like Samsung Knox simply aren’t set up for always-connected, mission critical systems like point of sale, kiosks, and digital signage. They were never meant to deploy, control, or update these systems (let alone do it all remotely!) MDMs carry legacy interfaces and architectural baggage that will invariably slow you down every step of the way. Esper is built to supercharge your fleet strategy – using the power of DevOps.

To support team members and customer experiences across our POS, tablets, and other devices, we needed a solution that worked for our next generation enterprise Android apps. Using Esper Foundation for Android (x86), we were able to keep our current hardware including peripherals. Esper was a true partner. Working with them allowed us to move fast, save money, and now we can make strategic decisions about what hardware we want to use.

"Esper helped us launch our Fusion connected fitness offering on three different types of hardware in less than six months. Their full stack connected fitness Android platform helped us test our application on different hardware platforms, configure all our devices over the cloud, and manage our fleet exactly to our specifications. They gave us speed, Android expertise, and trust that our application would provide a delightful experience for our customers."

Samsung Knox

For Samsung devices only
The Knox platform is device management built by a hardware company. Optimized for its own devices, critical features are often unsupported on non-Samsung devices. Don’t get locked in.
Upcharges basic support
Expecting onboarding tools and instructions? Not with Knox. Setting up the main portal can be tricky, and onboarding support can cost you extra.
Rudimentary and restricted app tools
Knox has limited support for apps outside its AppStack ecosystem. Visibility into app updates is limited, and many purpose-built apps are simply not available.
Shaky customer service
Support for the Knox platform is outsourced by Samsung. Getting in touch can be difficult, and smaller accounts can anticipate glacial response times.
Rusty remote capabilities
Knox’s basic remote tools don’t allow users to switch from Kiosk to Multi-asset Mode, which limits your ability to make adjustments or troubleshoot offsite.
